The Nurse Next Door Story – Canada

Co-founders John DeHart and Ken Sim found an opportunity when Ken’s wife went on emergency bed rest while pregnant.

Ken employed a caregiver and discovered that the caregiver had just started work after faxing in her resume the previous day. She had never met her employer.

Looking into the home health care business industry further, John and Ken found sterile businesses that provided the basics, making life only slightly more bearable for their clients. They knew that they could create something better and launched Nurse Next Door in 2001.

The Nurse Next Door Story – Australia

Founders of Nurse Next Door Australia, Amber Biesse and Matt Fitton, were living in Vancouver, Canada when they noticed the pink Nurse Next Door cars driving around their local neighbourhood and decided to look them up.

Amber and Matt realised that the chance to build a business with heart, work with people who were passionate about making a difference and lead a purpose driven company centred around Making Lives Better was an incredible opportunity.

Having already identified that the combination of an ageing population and the NDIS revolutionising the disability space, was creating compelling business advantages for entrepreneurs.  With a new strategic focus in the Australian market on the end consumer, in terms of customer service and client experience, ironically requiring a “hospitality” mindset – Amber and Matt knew that they could create something special in Australia with the brand and launched Nurse Next Door into the Australian market in 2018.

Nurse Next Door’s Painted Picture

Our vision for the future, September 2022

Nurse Next Door’s Leadership Team has planned out goals for the company for the next 12-18 months to continue to be disruptors in the home care industry. By having these plans laid out ensures the Nurse Next Door team continue to provide excellent client services.

We believe in transparency and so we’re sharing our Painted Picture publicly online.

To learn more about Nurse Next Door’s objectives and what we envision for September 2022.

We Believe You Can Stay at Home

If you ask anybody, the overwhelming majority of people will say that they want to stay in the comfort of their own home as they age. That’s why we’ve taken this stance and our goal is to educate others about this possibility. For us, the heart of a home care business is centered around caring, not just health care.

We are #HappierAging

What did you use to love to do that you no longer do? This is the question we ask clients so we can get them back to doing the things that bring them joy. We’re living and spreading a culture through our clients, caregivers, people and industry disruptors.

We Make it Easy for You

We believe in making processes as easy as possible. That’s why we’ve leveraged technology to making scheduling responsive to business and client needs as well as make better decisions through consolidated financial reporting. With our recognised brand, people want to work for us.

We are 3 x 3

We are a premium brand and we believe that clients benefit from service at least 3 times per week for at least 3 hours per visit. This time allows caregivers to develop relationships with clients that go beyond tasks. In addition, clients benefit from consistency of care.

We are Bold Pink

We’re not afraid to stand out in an industry that is often looked at as somber and melancholy. We are different and we’re bold about it.

With our Happier Ageing® program, it’s not just about health care. Help older Australians rediscover their hobbies as they age in the comfort of their own home.
